My Favorite Estate Sale Find Reupholstered!

I love it when I discover amazing things and the price is knock me over cheap!  Seriously, who doesn't love a great deal?  I found this amazing chair at an estate sale store for a mere $40.  It's a commode chair in excellent condition circa 1840-1860.  Who doesn't need a commode chair?  I'm sure that's what you too :) If you're reading this and you don't know what a commode chair is, let me give you a's a potty chair.

The seat comes off to reveal a wooden lid and under that lid is a hole.  The chamber pot would sit under the chair (see the wooden apron on the front of the chair?) Well, that helped hide the pot or maybe splatter (ewww), anyway...I think it's beautiful and it's slightly heavy and solid.

This is a real antique and I would never dream of painting it, so instead I polished the wood and reupholstered the seat.  The fabric that was on it above was not original, however under that you can see the yellow mohair that was the original.  So, I left it all in tacked.  I added some batting for cushion and simple covered it with another layer.

I fell in love with this fabric from Hobby Lobby for the seat.  I love this fabric so much I might make a couple of pillows from it too!

Next up will be getting the baseboards installed.  We put in new floors recently so this is next up...very soon.  What do you think, would you snag a chair like this if you saw one?  This week I'll be sharing the entire dining room reveal, so come back and check it out.
